National Geographic Collage
I consider this storytelling tool to be equal parts exciting and tragic as I am sacrificing my National Geographic magazine collection to create collages with the Moroccan students participating in my study. I hope to elucidate the abstract concept of natural interaction with the environment by providing the resources and framework to creatively depict the competing realities of a human dominated world.
The top portion of the collage represents natural interaction with the environment. The bottom portion of the collage depicts harmful, and frankly counterproductive, human interaction with the environment. This tool creates space for uncertainty as participants can use the middle section to represent interactions they have trouble defining, ones that may be harmful but provide substantial benefit, or interactions that appear beneficial on the face but can have harmful consequences.
